The company's existence fueled tensions between these factions, leading to open conflict. On the eve of unveiling a method to end Neuropozyne dependence, Sarif Industries was attacked by Belltower mercenaries. Many scientists were presumed dead, and security manager Adam Jensen was left near-dead, forcing David Sarif to save him with extensive augmentations.

In Their Own Story

Adam Jensen, formerly a local SWAT squad leader in Detroit who was fired for refusing a questionable order, worked as a security manager at Sarif Industries. His ex-girlfriend, Megan Reed, was a key researcher there. When the Tyrants attacked the facility, Jensen survived only because CEO David Sarif funded his transformation into a heavily augmented operative. Six months later, Jensen returned to investigate another terrorist attack by anti-augmentation radicals. The narrative follows Jensen as he investigates the shadowy organization behind these events, moving between Detroit, Montreal, and the Shanghai metropolis of Hengsha. Key figures include Frank Pritchard, the systems engineer; Faridah Malik, the chief pilot; and Eliza Cassan from Picus Communications. The story culminates in uncovering the roles of various antagonists like Hugh Darrow, founder of augmentation technology who cannot use it himself, and Zhao Yun Ru of Tai Yong Medical.
