He learns researcher Megan Reed was killed, though she actually survives and appears alive in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. He discovers the Illuminati control augmented people via Neuropozyne and a biochip capable of shutting down their systems. Reed had been developing a DNA-based solution to negate Neuropozyne reliance, prompting the strike. Rogue ally Hugh Darrow hijacks the biochip at the polar base Panchaea, triggering mass violence among augmented individuals. Jensen shuts down the signal but faces a critical choice: broadcast the truth from suggestions by different characters or destroy Panchaea silently. Optional backstory reveals Jensen was the sole survivor of childhood genetic experiments by the Illuminati, allowing him to use augmentations without the scarce drug Neuropozyne.

In Their Own Story

By 2029, two years after the 'Aug Incident,' worldwide discrimination against augmented people has surged. Presumed dead after Panchaea's collapse, Jensen was rescued and fitted with new advanced augmentations. Operating out of Prague, he serves TF29 while secretly partnering with Janus of the Juggernaut Collective to dismantle Illuminati control. During a train bombing investigation, he uncovers a plot to force the Human Restoration Act, aiming to deport augmented people into isolated complexes. Post-credits scenes reveal TF29 psychiatrist Delara Auzenne and Illuminati leader Lucius DeBeers are manipulating Jensen to locate Janus. Further adventures in the 'Jensen's Stories' DLC series see him investigating the bombing in Desperate Measures, joining a bank heist in System Rift, and recounting his first undercover assignment in an augmented prison for A Criminal Past.
